About
"Any teaching act is a result of a decision,
either conscious or unconscious."
~ Shavelson, 1973

I am an Associate Professor in the College of Education at TCU where I teach undergraduate and graduate courses in literacy. I currently serve as co-editor of The Reading Teacher for the International Literacy Association (ILA).
Teachers are my passion. My research centers around teaching decisions related to literacy instruction, particularly in guided reading. I also study teacher knowledge by examining the development of preservice teachers’ understandings about literacy and various aspects of teacher preparation programs that can support the development of the qualities of excellent teachers of reading as identified by the International Literacy Association.
When I am not working in schools, teaching at the university, or conducting research, I enjoy spending time with my loving and supportive husband and my three talented and beautiful children.
